Manu's sannyasin was an ascetic of the highest calibre and absolutely fearless.

Sadhu: Pious man; Sannyasin.
Samadhi: Ecstasy, total absorption, or a thoughtless state of the mind. It is the highest state of being.
Samsara: The world of change and becoming; the relative world.

Sadhu - A holy man, ascetic, or monk.
Saguna - With form.
Sahasrara - The spiritual centre at the head.

sadhunam rajyam the reign of the saints.

Sadhus are known for the extreme forms of self-denial they occasionally practice.

SADHU: Pious man; Sannyasin.
SAGARA: Ocean.
SAHASRANAMA: The thousand Names of the Lord.
SAKSHI: Witness.
SAKTI: Power; the feminine aspect of Divinity.
SAKTI-SANCHAR: Transference of power by a developed Yogi.
SAMA: Serenity; control of mind.

Persons who have already transcended the mundane regions are saints ( sadhus ), and the religion of the sadhus is inculcated in the Bhagabat . Matsarata is the combination of the obstacles: kama , krodha , lobha and mada .

I spent several days photographing hundreds of arriving sadhus (monks) and other holy men and women, of all shapes and sizes and into all kinds of trips and all come to purify themselves physically and spiritually in Mother Ganges.

They stay for a few days in Ram Ashram Library or with some Sadhus, learn the names Kundalini, Mula Chakra, Nadi, Pranayama, Maya, or Pratibimbavada and move from place to place.

" Some Sadhu tutored the man. "Tell the ghost, O.K eat me up. Do as you wish, what more can you do than eating me up? I am not afraid." When the ghost felt that he would not work if he is not afraid, the ghost set him free.

Those who are addicted to sensual pleasures or those who are arrogant, dishonest, untruthful, diplomatic, cunning and treacherous; those who disrespect Sadhus, Sannyasins and their Gurus or spiritual preceptors and take pleasure in vain controversies, ...

In addition, hundreds and thousands sanyasins (renunciates) and sadhus (Hindu monks) wander in and out of city temples, ...

- sadhu-sanga, association with devotees;
- bhajana kriya: the regular spiritual practice of chanting the names reading the scriptures and such; this stage bridges to the next level via d î k s h â.

After taking these vows, Swami Sivananda Saraswati, as he would be known henceforth, started an extremely intense daily Sadhana (spiritual practices) and Tapas (austerities) for the next 10 years or so. By the end of that period many co-Sadhus felt ...
