Sama is to calm down. Prasamana is to deeply calm down, tranquil, pacify. If concentration is one dimension of mastery over the mind, tranquilling or pacifying or calming down the mind the second dimension. This is what we have missed in modern times.

 


Sama - Tranquility or control of mind. Calmness. This is the ability to keep the mind within and unaffected by the external world.
Dama - Control of the senses. This consists in not letting the senses run out towards the sense objects.

Sama - Equal; balanced state of mind.

As the five hindrances may be suppressed for days after entering jhāna, the meditator will feel perfectly clear, mindful, full of compassion, peaceful and light after the meditation session.

The Sama-Veda is purely a devotional collection of melodies (saman) used to elevate one’s consciousness.

sama: control of mind, tranquillity, or, political conciliation between opponents
samadhi: the state of superconsciousness where Absoluteness is experienced, attended with all-knowledge and joy, Oneness
samadhana: proper concentration ...

SAMA: Serenity; control of mind.
SAMADHI: The state of superconsciousness where Absoluteness is experienced attended with all-knowledge and joy. Oneness.
SAMSARA: The process of worldly life.
SAMSKARAS: Impressions in the subconscious mind.

Now the yajna has come to a close and the pandits who have performed it are chanting from the Sama Veda. Previously they were chanting from Yajur Veda. According to Indian tradition, the Sama Veda is the root of all music.

"M" represents the Sama Veda. This has a practical application as one focuses or places the most emphasis on "A" this will have a more profound effect on the physical or earthly realm.

Straightforwardness, service to Guru, the sick and old persons, Ahimsa, Brahmacharya, spontaneous generosity, Titiksha, Sama Drishti, Samata, spirit of service, selflessness, tolerance, Mitahara, humility, ...

four ancient texts- Rig, Yajur, Sama, Atharva, which are further divided into Samhita, Brahmana, Aranayaka and Upanishads.

The highest authority among the Aryans of India/ four ancient texts- Rig, Yajur, Sama, Atharva, which are further divided into Samhita, Brahmana, Aranayaka and Upanishads.

The other three, the Yajur, Sama, and Artharva Vedas, derive more than half of their contents from the Rig Veda. This is the section that concerns itself with the mantras, along with the rules for their pronunciation and recitation.

These are the four ancient, authoritative and revealed Hindu scriptures of India. They are Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda and Atharva Veda.

Veda: The Veda, meaning "Knowledge," is a collective term for the sacred scriptures of the Hindus. There are four volumes or collections, written from about 1500 to 1000 BC including the Rig, Yajur and Sama Vedas.

E. but none were written down until the beginning of the first millennium B.C.E. They were arranged by Vyasa into four books, namely, the Rig-Veda, the Yajur-Veda, the Sama-Veda, and the Atharva-Veda.
