It is not realistic to expect the Vedas to contain the entire teachings of the Vedic period, but rather as Samhitas they contain the Shrutti or revelations that were given during deep meditation.
The first division is called Samhitas. This is a collection of mantras and prayers presented to those individuals who practised ritualistic and symbolic worship.
