Yoga SamhitaSamkhya

The Vedic Samhitas contain references to ascetics, while ascetic practices ("tapas") are referenced in the Brāhmaṇas (900 to 500 BCE), early commentaries on the Vedas.[23]

It is not realistic to expect the Vedas to contain the entire teachings of the Vedic period, but rather as Samhitas they contain the Shrutti or revelations that were given during deep meditation.

The first division is called Samhitas. This is a collection of mantras and prayers presented to those individuals who practised ritualistic and symbolic worship.
