NAMA SANKIRTANA: Group chanting of the name of the Lord. NATARAJ: (lit., king of the dance) A name of Shiva, referring to the dancing Shiva. The object of his dance is to free all souls from the fetters of illusion.
That process is Harinam Sankirtan, or the congregational chanting of the Holy Names of the Lord: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare" ^ Bhag-P 11.5.
Sankirtana -- the congregational chanting of the holy names of God, spreading God consciousness. Sannyasa, Sannyasi -- the renounced order of life / renounced wandering mendicant. Sastra -- revealed scriptures.
SANKIRTAN: Singing of divine songs. SANNYASINS: Those who have embraced the life of complete renunciation. SATCHIDANANDA: Existence absolute(Sat), Knowledge absolute(Chid), Bliss absolute(Ananda). SATSANG: Association with the wise.
Students chant Sanskrit mantras which can either be Nama Sankirtana (chants that consist of short Sanskrit phrases, typically names of God) or swadhyaya (chanting of longer texts).
He often conducted Sankirtan, nursed the sick, and worked as Master's assistant. At various times, he managed the Sivananda Publication League, ran the Ashram kitchen, and supervised the building of Sri Gurudev's temple and other buildings.
