Trataka (in Sanskrit, n., त्राट-, trāṭaka, to look, or to gaze) is the practice of staring at some external object. It is used in yoga as a way of developing concentration, strengthening the eyes, and stimulating the Ajna chakra.

Trataka (Gazing)
Gaze steadily without winking with a concentrated mind at any small object, until tears begin to flow. By this practice all diseases of the eye are removed. Unsteadiness of the mind vanishes. Sambhavi Siddhi is obtained.

Trataka means "staring,"gazing at something with the eyes open. Unlike a previous experiment, where we kept the eyes open but gazed inside, looking at the breathing, trataka is looking at something outside. It is not abstraction of vision! ...

Trataka
Trataka' is steady gazing at a particular point or object without winking. Though this is one of the six purificatory exercises, it is mainly intended for developing concentration and mental focusing.

6. Inner Trataka - Lie down in shavasana, focus on eye brow center and visualize a candle flame in the eye brow center with closed eyes. Integrate breath awareness with candle flame.
