Uddiyana Bandha
After exhalation all of the air is expelled from the lungs. The lower abdomen and diaphragm are then drawn upwards in a vacum. The muscles from the sacrum to the ribs are contracted.

4. Maha Mudra
This is the most important of all Mudras. Hence it is called ‘Maha Mudra.' Press the anus carefully with the left heel. Stretch out the right leg. Catch hold of the toe with the two hands.

Stage I: Uddiyana Bandha
Exhale completely through the mouth by vigorously contracting the abdominal muscles.
Simultaneously press the hands against the thighs, tighten the arms, shoulders, neck muscles and lift up the ribs.

In uddiyana bandha the breath is expelled and the abdomen is brought backward. In this way the energies in the navel area are drawn in and up. Photographs often show yogins who appear to have squashed their entire abdominal region.

40. The Uddiyana Bandha: At the end of the Kumbhaka and at the beginning of expiration, Uddiyana Bandha should be performed. Because Prana Uddiyate, or the Prana goes up the Sushumna in this Bandha, the Yogins call it Uddiyana.

Inhale and gently engage the Mula and Uddiyana bandhas -- bringing your awareness to the urogenital area and the lower abdominal regions.

Nauli Kriya is intended for regenerating, invigorating and stimulating the abdominal viscera and the gastro-intestinal or alimentary system. For the practice of Nauli you should know the Uddiyana Bandha.

Mula bandha and uddiyana bandha are applied. The lower ribs move into the body, lengthening the front of the body. The asana or seat in this pose is the hands, wrists, and forearms which are pressing evenly into the floor lifting the energy upwards.
