Instructions
Find a comfortable seated position. Gently exhale all of the air from the lungs.

Ujjayi Breathing has many variations. For example, we can breathe in through the throat, then completely close one nostril and breathe out through the other nostril, which is only partly closed. This technique is called an Anuloma Ujjayi.

Ujjayi Breathing
The main type of breathing we do in yoga is called ujjayi (ooh-JAI-yee). Ujjayi breathing, known as the "victory breath," is characterized by an audibly hollow, deep, soft sound coming from your throat.

Ujjayi pranayama
Ujjayi pranayama acts on the carotid sinuses, which are situated in the region of the throat and are beside the main blood artery that supplies the brain. The carotid sinuses detect blood pressure.

Ujjayi
Sit in Padmasana or Siddhasana. Close the mouth. Inhale slowly through both the nostrils in a smooth, uniform manner till the breath fills the space from the throat to the heart.

Ujjayi. Breathing exercise that produces sound in the throat with the inhalation. Pronounced you-jie-ah.

Ujjayi breath is a type of pranayama (controlled breathing) in which you breathe in a constant, even rhythm through both nostrils, holding your glottis partially closed.

For me my edge is a therapeutic edge, where the abdominal ujjayi breath is the deepest, fullest, balanced, and perfectly spontaneous and natural. It can be used as a bellwether gauge in a vigorous asana practice if such is our wont.

Then reset your nervous system with yogic ocean breaths (ujjayi pranayama), which can be done anytime, anywhere (yes, even while operating a vehicle), and it serve to settle the nervous system almost instantaneously.

Breathing: The breathing technique performed with vinyasa is called ujjayi [victorious breath] (Scott 20), which consists of puraka [inhalation] and rechaka [exhalation] ("Ashtanga Yoga").

The breathing style used in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is Ujjayi which is a relaxed diaphragmatic style of breathing, characterized by an ocean sound which resonates in the practitioner's throat.

He introduces Nadi-Sodhana (alternate nostril breathing), and Ujjayi (breathing with a slight contract in the glottis) in the first weeks. He then moves into forward-bending postures, to open the hips, that are dynamic in nature.

Use Kapalabhati and Ujjayi Pranayama to help warm and energize the body and further boost metabolism. Practice Kapalabhati before or after your yoga practice, and use Ujjayi with vinyasa and holding yoga poses.

While Ujjayi and Viloma Pranayama are performed with open nostrils, in anuloma, Pratiloma and Nadi Shodhana Pranayama you use your fingers to regulate breath.

Gradually, as she took long, deep ujjayi (ocean sounding) breaths, her tears subsided, and it was then that I could truly see her beauty. With her eyes closed, she was smiling, and when she opened her eyes she described her state as blissful.
