Vata is one of the three humours or tridosha in Ayurvedic medicine. These humours originated from the different elements and they constitute the basis of human existence and our bio-psycho-social environment.

Vata, and its subtle mental counterpart Prana, are balanced by alternating the two breathing techniques or by inhaling and exhaling through both nostrils simultaneously with attention and awareness.

Generally they appear later in ones life, which is generally considered the vata stage of life.

This Pranayama should again and again be performed, as it purifies the brain and destroys the intestinal worms. It removes the four kinds of evils caused by Vayu and cures Vata (rheumatism). It cures rhinitis and various sorts of neuralgia.

pranayama (breath exercise) that relaxes the nervous system. It is a gentle and beneficial practice that can easily be taught to virtually anybody. It is helpful for reducing anxiety and for insomnia. In ayurvedic lingo, it reduces vata.
