The Nirvikalpa or Sanjivan Samadhi is well explained by the greatest yogi, Dhnyaneshwar.
Sankalapa vikalpatmakah manah, a changing mind oscillation from one state to another. This is the most gross state of mind when this randomness gets canalized the energies start getting useful.
Vikalpa: Fancy; Imagination. Viniyoga: Application. Vipareetha Bhavana: Perverted understanding. Viparyaya: Wrong knowledge; wrong cognition. Virodha: Opposing. Visesha: Distinction; defined. Vishaya: Objects. Visoka: Without sorrow.
According to the descriptions we have in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, this is equal to savikalpa samadhi, a merger into the being of God with a simultaneous feeling of independence maintained by oneself.
