Vyasa (Devanagari: व्यास, vyāsa) is a central and revered figure in the majority of Hindu traditions.

 


Vyasa
The famous sage and philosopher who is considered to be the author of all the Puranas, the Brahma Sutras and who also first compiled and organised Vedantic mantras.

Vyasa, Patanjali's oldest extant commentator, mentions this pose, though he doesn't describe how to do it: "The curlew and other seats [asana] may be understood by actually seeing a curlew and the other animals seated" (Yoga Sutra 2.46).

According to Vyasa Bhashya, swadhyaya is: (i) japa, or repetition, of purifying mantras such as the sacred syllable Om; and (ii) the study of scriptures on liberation.

During the war, after Jayadratha is slain, Arjuna is speaking to Bhagavan Vedavyasa on many a matter. One of the surprises which Arjuna expressed to Maharshi Vyasa was: "O Maharshi! Can you explain to me one interesting thing?

a great sage named Vyasa, categorized the Vedic hymns into the 4 Vedic texts we know today: Rig Veda ("Knowledge of Praise"), Yajur-Veda ("Knowledge of Sacrifice"), Sama-Veda ("Knowledge of Chants"), and Atharva-Veda ("Knowledge of Atharvan").

The Yoga-bhasya, Veda Vyasa's commentary on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali could have been written as early as 450 CE. Professor J. H. Woods, places the date of the Yoga-bhasya between 650 CE to 850 CE.

Indeed, as early as the writings of King Bhoja, one verse in the fourth pada (IV. 16) was recognized asa line interpolated from Vyasa's seventh commentary in which he dissented from Vijnanavadin Buddhists.

Brahma-Sutra - One of the three sacred texts of the Vedanta and the Yoga philosophy (the other two being the Upanisads, and the Bhagavad-Gita),in which its author Badarayana-Vyasa compiles together the leading concepts of Vedanta in an orderly manner.

Bhakti Yoga is the spiritual discipline of 'love and devotion' as a means for evolution, as expounded , for instance, in the Bhagavad Gita and other scriptures; the seminal work on Bhakti Yoga is the Naradha Bhakti Sutras, by Veda Vyasa.
